Introduction
PLI is a project-based school. This means the student work is more student driven than at other schools. Students work on projects each quarter. For more information on projects, check out the NEW or PERSPECTIVE PARENTS AND STUDENTS page.
Students are engaged in a variety of experiences with different forms of technology in order to facilitate self-sufficiency in their future and increase their access to information.
Engagement in workshops, presentations, exhibitions, and site tours/visits enhance students’ knowledge and passion for learning. The curriculum includes life/survival skills, career exploration, arts, music, science laboratory experiences, and physical/health education.
Students have workstations all in one large space. The staff members are available for the students then whenever they need them.
Students are engaged in a lot of independent work and one-on-one instruction with staff members. Students at PLI are learning in a non-traditional way. Instead of traveling to 8 classes a day, students are assigned a workstation to work at throughout the day. The teachers travel to the students and hold individual meetings with students to foster learning and growth. It is much like a business person’s day: most of the day the student works independently with disbursed meetings with advisors, community members, and/or peers.
