AP

The Advanced Placement Program is an activity of the College Entrance Examination Board. The College Board defines the curriculum and objectives of college-level courses which our advisors may work individually or in small groups with students on. In June of each year, students should contact an advisor to discuss the possibility of working on the content for a specific exam for the following year. In May of each year, high school students that have worked on the AP curriculum take an exam prepared and scored by the College Board. Universities may elect to award college credit to students who have achieved a specific level of proficiency on AP exams. For example: UW-Madison gives 3 credits for a score of 3 or higher on the English Literature exam; If a student receives a 4+, they get
the 3 credits plus they are exempt from freshman English at the University. Thus the AP program extends our educational program offerings to able and ambitious students. Scholarships may be applied for to help with the cost of the exam in May.
List below are a few of the course offerings through AP. Check the College Board website to view others.

• English Literature
• Biology
• Environmental Science

ITT

The Professional Learning Institute has a close relationship with ITT. They provide a number of our junior and senior students each year with the opportunity to apply to take a full year of classes at their south-side campus. Students interested in a technical field of study will be asked to fill out an application with credit information an essay and letters of recommendation from advisors in the early spring. There are students from all over the city that apply, and ITT selects only a small percentage of the students who apply. Tuition and books are provided, and if the student meets all requirements of the courses, they can earn college credit while still attending high school.

MATC, UWM, MIAD, Marquette, etc.

Students are encouraged to look into post-secondary programs which allow high school students to earn college or high school credit through specific courses for MPS students. While we encourage these advanced course, enrollment in them is dependant on district policy and student initiative in investigating these programs. There are endless opportunities for motivated students in MPS, and we look forward to working with these various institutions in the future.
